I know I have done a blog on this before, but I have to share that it was so refreshing to see over 300 educators give up a Saturday to attend the OU Ipadpalooza to learn how to keep their classroom “fresh” and current using today’s technology. And yes, this is a shoutout! Last Friday and Saturday, the University of Oklahoma Jeannine Rainbolt School of Education, in conjunction with the OU Gaylord College of Journalism, held a 2-day conference with an immense number of breakout sessions to showcase the latest in classroom edtech integration for both prospective and current educators.
The organizers of this event--too many to name--did a superb job for a first-time event, which I hope will become a mainstay on Oklahoma's educational landscape. I was amazed to discover some educators had driven over 3 hours the night before (after teaching all day) so they would be ready for Saturday’s full schedule. Who says old dogs can’t (or don't want to) learn new tricks?
On another note, Happy New Year! Yes Happy New Year! Many folks in the hot/warm midwest states like Oklahoma often see September 1 as time to celebrate a Happy New Year! Why? Because to me, the new school year has kicked off, and everyone is getting into their routines. But it also signals the beginning of college football, the NFL (real) season begins in a week, Major League Baseball playoffs are right around the corner, the Oklahoma State Fair opens in approximately two weeks AND just possibly there is cooler weather within sight.
As you enjoy this Labor Day three-day holiday, refresh, think of those classroom systems and routines you need to strengthen and return on Tuesday ready to tackle the fall term.

As we move to the halfway point of the legislative session we still don't know what's going to happen with the budget.
Happy 2016!! As I welcome in the new year, I always begin the “cleanse”–going through closets and chunking items I no longer want or that fit, ridding the kitchen cabinets of expired food and actually wiping off the refrigerator shelves (can finally see them after all of the holiday food is out). I know for many this is a time of the 21-day “diet-cleanse,” renewed gym memberships and even the 21-day “financial cleanse.”
How prepared are you to issue a statement following an event within your district that has caught the media's attention? If you aren't and you have no idea what to say, it's definitely a task for which you need to prepare.
Google has been very busy this summer with various updates and new tools for the classroom, and I think you’re going to love the new things that are coming!
