We Celebrate You!

It’s your day! Not Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparents Day or Secretary's Day but Teacher Appreciation Day, and if any working professional deserves a day of recognition, it is YOU!

It’s your day! Not Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparents Day or Secretary's Day but Teacher Appreciation Day, and if any working professional deserves a day of recognition, it is YOU!

I know you’ve heard the words “You are molding young minds” (and you are) or “dedication today creates the country’s leaders tomorrow” (and it does) or even “you’re a role model who impacts the character of a community” (and you do).

But we also know you sacrifice your family time to grade and do lesson plans, you sacrifice your family budget to buy classroom extras (Kleenex, etc.) and more importantly, you invest emotionally in your students to ensure their success.

A group of Miami 4th graders said it more eloquently in a recent NPR story titled: "Reporting Live From Miami: A Bunch Of Fourth-Graders Tell Their Teacher's Story," And this is what they said:

  • “...our teacher has a kindness and a willingness to make learning fun…”
  • “...she makes learning fun and cares about her students…”
  • “...activities are among other things, fun and highly educational…”
  • “...she is a patient teacher and helps every student learn in different ways…”

I know there are days when you are so tired and emotionally spent that it is hard to go home and make dinner, but whether or not it is verbalized, your students appreciate you just like those Miami 4th graders.

As a mom of three who are all now off my payroll, thank you to each and every teacher who endured my children and taught them. You helped them learn those state standards, but more importantly, you gave them a love of reading and a curiosity about everything, which has led to all three of them being lifelong learners. For that, I am so grateful.

So, YES, you deserve this day! Relish in the fact that we ALL appreciate you!

My sincerest wishes for a great day.
