As more and more schools’ budgets are being further reduced, reductions in force (RIF) continue to be explored by many districts. A couple more questions frequently asked are worth reviewing once again this year.

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center recommends that all families have—and share with their children’s school—a family preparedness plan. Such a plan outlines who is responsible for the care and custody of minor children in the event of an arrest, detainment or other happening that would make parents unavailable to their children.

Being neighborly costs nothing, but its value is beyond calculation. As I headed to the land of “Snowmegaddon” this past week to help my daughter with our 9-month old granddaughter, I witnessed many acts of random kindness as neighbors shoveled sidewalks and strangers gave up their airplane seats so parents & children could sit together.
