Unwrapping the New Standards

Unwrapping the New Standards

We have some important trainings coming up!

Remember the old adage "Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime."? This is somewhat the motivation behind our newly-created professional development that will cover the new Oklahoma ELA and math standards, which we have dubbed Unwrap the Standards With Us.

We are excited to announce May 24 will be the first of many trainings we will be having around the state to provide educators with the strategies to analyze and then incorporate the standards into your lesson plans. The May 24 standards training will be held at 3 separate locations:

  • Chisholm Trail Technology Center in Omega
  • Caddo-Kiowa Technology Center in Fort Cobb
  • OPSRC training center in Midtown Oklahoma City

All trainings will occur from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and as always, are free for member districts. Please click here to register for any of the 3 events.

As educators ourselves, we understand some of the most valuable training is done when teachers of the same grade level are given time to collaborate and discuss best practices for implementation. For many of our rural members, collaboration with others teaching the same grade level is often difficult. For instance, your first-grade teacher may be the only first-grade teacher within the county. Therefore, this collaborative time will be built into the day, as we know how invaluable strategizing opportunities with others of like mind can be.

Additionally, we are hosting an NWEA: Goal Setting & Essential Reports training for administrators and curriculum & testing coordinators. This event will be held on June 14 at OPSRC in Oklahoma City. Click here to register.

Check your mailboxes or the OPSRC homepage to access our latest PD course offering catalog. As a member, all of these trainings are free to you and your staff. We can come to you, or you can join us at any regional site. If you don't find what your staff needs, we can customize. We hope to see you on May 24th!
