Teaching & Learning Through the Holidays!

Two weeks! Just two weeks until that long-anticipated Winter Break you and your students so deserve: Joy to the World! We sincerely hope you’ll have some Silent Nights in store.

Two weeks! Just two weeks until that long-anticipated Winter Break you and your students so deserve: Joy to the World! We sincerely hope you’ll have some Silent Nights in store. Last month, I provided some resources about how to keep students engaged during breaks, and now is the perfect time to review those. We all know that while you’re Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, you’re really thinking about all that still needs to get done in the new year ahead. So how can OPSRC help?

State testing, teacher evaluations, data analysis, NWEA, professional development, engaging your community through social media, the list goes on and on! Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town in the form of our teams at OPSRC; remember, we are always here to assist you. In fact, the Teaching & Learning staff is looking to make our PD offerings more attuned to your needs, and we need your feedback to make this a reality. While those Chestnuts are Roasting on an Open Fire, please complete this PD Needs Request Survey. Your feedback drives our offerings and is invaluable to us.

This coming year, we will sit down with school leaders for some intentional, strategic planning for next year’s training. We'll dive into data and conduct teacher surveys to help schools create PD that meets the needs of teachers, administrators, students and the communities they serve. If you’d like to begin scheduling your strategic planning sessions with a member of the T&L Team, please email me or call at 405.428.4814.

It has been a pleasure to visit your many school sites, learn alongside you and support you this year. We are looking forward to an even better 2018, where we can visit more schools, expand our online offerings to meet your ever-changing PD needs and work with you to plan strategically for your vision! Until then, Party Like It’s 1999, and we’ll see you in 2018!

Preparedness Plans for Immigrant Families

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center recommends that all families have—and share with their children’s school—a family preparedness plan. Such a plan outlines who is responsible for the care and custody of minor children in the event of an arrest, detainment or other happening that would make parents unavailable to their children.

OPSRC–Providing Schools Essential Resources Without the Financial Burden

It’s news to no one that our public schools face enormous challenges in virtually every area of operations, including finances. Oklahoma education funding is one of the lowest in the nation and yet mandates remain, leaving schools without the proper resources to support them.
