We've had quite a few conversations lately about mid-term adjustments and want to share our recommendations with as many of you as possible. We urge you to go back through your numbers to ensure your counts are correct. The most consistent issue we hear is that the economically disadvantaged weight was not as high as expected. This is an issue that needs to be addressed if you lost students in this area. The issue is probably a lack of communication between buildings; therefore, always compare notes. If one member of a family is on free and reduced lunch, other family members are as well. It doesn’t hurt for those who enter the numbers to verify they are accurately entering all families into the system.
On another topic, as we move into spring and prepare for the state testing window, make sure to do a system check on your computers and network. There is absolutely nothing worse than coming up on the first day of testing and having computer or connectivity issues. This is also the time of year to make sure that your filter is properly set up and isn’t blocking out the test software.

Finally, our next finance report will arrive after the Board of Equalization meeting in late February. We will have current collections for the 1017 and the Technology Education Funds in addition to the expected collection rates for the remainder of the year. The oil industry expects a slow down for the biggest part of the 2019 calendar year, and it will be interesting to see how the State Board of Equalization accommodates industry speculation on future activity. School finance is a many splendored thing, but the metrics of finance will help us to get through it.
