Creating new professional development opportunities on different platforms has become the Teaching & Learning team’s focus. We know many times those August PD days are filled with focusing on some of the state-mandated topics like Blood Borne Pathogens, FERPA and others, and that is valuable staff time. To ease this burden, the T & L team has created 10 interactive online courses that deal directly with those state-mandated topics. And when you finish each course, you will be given the option to print a certificate of completion. You can access these courses behind the members only section of our website. Be sure to set up an account, and encourage your staff to do so as well.
To kick-off the 2016-2017 OPSRC professional development calendar, the first statewide regional PD will be both August 2 and 3 in Ardmore and the topic will be interactive notebooks. Due to increased, demand, we have expanded these five regional training to two days in two different regional locations. Click here to register.
If you want to get an overview of our training format and some of the new topics we will be offering this year (including Unwrapping the Standards with Us), we recommend the July 12 Administrator’s Overview from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. We will be showcasing our newest training, Rediscover Reading based on Doug Lemov’s Teach Like a Champion model at this event. Register here.
Additionally, we will begin PD webinars beginning in July with the first session focusing on making educators' lives more productive by managing tasks more efficiently. Dates and times will be published on our website by July 1.
Just a reminder: whether we are at your site, you/your staff are training at our site in OKC, you are using our online courses or you are participating through a webinar, our professional development sessions are always FREE to our members. And if we don’t offer what you need, we will work hard to create it. We believe using a variety of platforms through which you can take quality PD will only ensure a better educational experience for Oklahoma students.

It’s news to no one that our public schools face enormous challenges in virtually every area of operations, including finances. Oklahoma education funding is one of the lowest in the nation and yet mandates remain, leaving schools without the proper resources to support them.
State Aid allocations showed an increase from $3,032.20 to $3,419.80 per WADM, and there are a few things to consider when evaluating the increase's effect:
When I was little, my dad spent time working at McDonnell Douglas in Tulsa. If I remember right, he worked on a lot of different things, but what always excited me the most was that he worked on the engine for the F-15 Eagle fighter jet.
