Super Exciting Upcoming PD!

Can you believe the school year is almost over? Just a few weeks remain with your students, and then summer begins! We've all heard the myth that educators “take summers off” while lounging by the pool, but OSPRC knows summers are when the real work begins to prepare for next year.

Can you believe the school year is almost over? Just a few weeks remain with your students, and then summer begins! We've all heard the myth that educators “take summers off” while lounging by the pool, but OSPRC knows summers are when the real work begins to prepare for next year. Summers are a time to reflect, plan forward and grow professionally. You will spend your time seeking out PD that will help you be the best teacher or administrator you can for your district--in between shopping trips for school supply bargains, of course! Never fear: OPSRC has you covered.

During May, we will round out our webinar series for 2018 with Dr. Katie McKnight presenting How Can I Support my Struggling Readers? (Grades 4-12) on May 3rd and Dr. Donita Shaw presenting "Learning Letters!" (Early Childhood & Elementary Focus) on May 15th. Register online now to save your spot.

In the summer, we are very excited to present Matt Miller on July 30th. Matt is a teacher, blogger and presenter who has infused technology and innovative teaching methods in his classes for more than 10 years. He is the author of the book Ditch That Textbook: Free Your Teaching and Revolutionize Your Classroom and is a Google Certified Innovator, Bammy! Top to Watch in 2016 and winner of the WTHI-TV Golden Apple Award. He will present a full-day workshop on engaging students in digital spaces and rethinking our “textbook” beliefs about education. Space is limited and is filling up quickly.

Our first annual “Classroom Management Bootcamp: Strategies You Can Apply in Your Classroom” is coming to a city near you. OPSRC will present a 3-day series of workshops in both OKC and Tulsa on July 25th-27th to address critical classroom management skills based on the teachings of Doug Lemov in Teach Like a Champion. Administrators: if you hire new teachers who need critical classroom management strategy building before the school year begins, register them today! If you are an instructional coach who would like to add more support strategies to your coaching toolbox, this is for you! Also, if you are a veteran teacher who would like to be introduced to even more classroom management techniques, join us.

And lastly, it's time to schedule your summer PD. Our calendar is filling up for July and August, so if you would like to book on-site professional development, please see our newest offerings at www.opsrc.net/pd/catalog. Once you complete a request online, we will follow up with you to confirm details.

We can’t wait to teach and learn alongside you this summer!

This is an extension of a post I included in a recent members-only Friday News Brief. However, I feel the topic is worth repeating, as the methods you choose for communicating with your staff, board and the public at large are critical to ensuring all interested parties stay informed of important school and district information.
