Student-Focused Communication PD is Here!

We're all familiar with teacher PD. But what about student PD? Probably not so much! Typically, this isn't even something we consider, probably because their main role in school is already focused on learning. But there are still areas that could be further emphasized--areas that will benefit them now AND later in their lives. Communication is definitely one of those areas. To address this need, our team is developing several topics of student-focused PD:

• Responsibly Building Your Brand Using Digital Media: This training includes content that empowers students with knowledge on safe online practices, how to be responsible digital citizens and how to build and control their personal and professional brands.
• Bullying Awareness and Prevention: This session educates students on what bullying looks like in all its forms, what their district policy states regarding bullying on school grounds, how to watch out for bullying and how to report it should a student be a victim of or witness to an act.
• Resume Building: Students will learn what content should be included in a professional resume, what to leave out, what format to use, how to adapt it for different positions, how to write a cover letter and additional do's and don'ts. Students will begin writing a resume in class.
• Interview Skills: Students will learn necessary steps to prepare for a professional interview, how to behave during an interview and etiquette after the interview. Students will be given time to practice answering common questions asked during interviews.
• Becoming a Confident Public Speaker: Public speaking can be a daunting task if you don't know how to prepare for it, especially for students. This class will give them tips and techniques for preparing that will lessen anxiety and ensure their audience is engaged and the message is effectively conveyed.
• Time Management: This is a topic that is applicable for the rest of their lives, so it's important to get them on the right track while they're still young! During this session, students will learn about why time management is important, ramifications of not managing time well, benefits of doing so and techniques to help them better manage their daily schedules.
